1 day tour: Páramo - Highland Hike

This full-day-tour into the Cordillera de Mérida offers stunning insights into the Páramo ecosystem of the Andes Mountains. It is suited for everyone who wants to get to know the Venezuelan highland's beauty.

Tour Itinerary

In the morning we'll start in Mérida and drive through the andean villages Tabay, Mucurubá and Mucuchies until we reach Mucubaji Lake. From there, we'll go hiking to Laguna Negra over 3000 mts height for approx. two hours. Up there, we'll see the Frailejones (Espeletia schultzii), the typical plant of the Páramos and visit the biological station “Mifafi”. This refuge hosts Condors that have been wounded to bring them back to the wild life.

We'll also drive along the highest pass of Venezuela: Pico El Águila (4100 m) where we'll enjoy of a phantastic mountainous panorama.

We will be back in Mérida in the late afternoon.
